Brown's Chicken & Pasta is the franchisor of about 40 quick-service restaurants that specialize in fried chicken. The chain's menu also includes chicken and fish sandwiches, a selection of side dishes, and, as the name suggests, pasta entrees. Brown's Chicken operates primarily in the Chicago area where it also offers catering services. The chain was started by the late John Brown in 1949. Frank Portillo, who's family runs a popular chain of hot dog outlets through Portillo's Restaurant Group, controls the company. Brown's Chicken & Pasta filed for bankruptcy in late 2009.
